Nicholasville, Ky is a small town that has been growing at a rapid pace recently. With the influx of new residents and visitors, there have been more and more fun things to do in Nicholasville. Here’s a list of some of my favorite things to do in no particular order:
Kentucky Artisan Center
For those interested in learning about Kentucky history, the Kenton County Artisan Center is a great place to start. This center houses products from local artists and craftspeople, with an emphasis on those who are based in Kenton County. You can take tours of the facility and learn about the history of the building. The visitor center also hosts classes for adults and children alike on various topics related to art, including cooking with food from your garden or how to make your own candles at home.
Raven Run Nature Sanctuary
Raven Run Nature Sanctuary is a magical place in Nicholasville that offers fun for the whole family. It’s home to more than 200 species of animals and birds, including bears, wolves, foxes, deer, and bald eagles. You can feed the animals at feeding stations throughout the park or take a guided tour. There are also hiking trails and picnic areas with grills available for use.
The 700-acre preserve is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The Raven Run Nature Sanctuary offers many fun activities for visitors to enjoy such as hiking trails, picnicking areas, educational programs for children and adults alike, and animal viewing areas including a butterfly garden! There are also special events hosted at this location throughout the year so make sure you check out their website before you visit so you can get your tickets early enough!
At the end of Nicholasville Road, you’ll find the Raven Run Nature Sanctuary. This 223-acre park includes hiking trails, picnic areas, and a nature center. The park is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to dusk.
Lexington History Museum
The Lexington History Museum offers several exhibits about local history, including an exhibit about Abraham Lincoln’s childhood years in Kentucky. Visitors can explore a recreation of the Lincoln family cabin where he lived as a child, which includes period furniture and tools used by farmers during that time period. The museum also has regular programs such as lectures and walking tours of historic sites in Lexington.
This museum features more than 20 galleries that showcase the history of Lexington from its earliest days as a frontier settlement through its status as an important city in today’s world. Visitors can see many artifacts from the Revolutionary War and Civil War as well as other historical periods and events.
Grey Goose Farm Horse Shows and more
You can find Grey Goose Farm to the east of Nicholasville in Jessamine County. It’s just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Fayette Mall, making it easy for you to get here if you want to check out their events. They offer horse shows as well as other fun activities like trail rides, lessons, and even horse boarding.
The best part is that they have discounts on tickets if you buy them online in advance!
Headley-Whitney Museum Garden
The Headley-Whitney Museum Garden is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The garden is open to the public and features a beautiful view of the Kentucky River, as well as one of the most picturesque views of the Central Kentucky bluegrass region.
You’ll be able to enjoy a scenic walk along with one of the paths that wind through this beautiful garden. The museum itself houses several different types of art, including paintings by local artists, sculptures, and more. You can also visit the gift shop for unique items and souvenirs!
Lake Mingo Park
Located on Lake Mingo Road, this park has a playground, picnic pavilions, and a fishing pier. It’s a great place for a family picnic or just to relax and enjoy the view of the lake. You can also take your dog here! If you’re looking to stay active while you’re in Nicholasville, this park is an excellent choice because of its many amenities: running trails, walking paths, biking trails, and even horseback riding trails!
Combat Ops Entertainment Center
And finally if you are in mood for some Painball games, head over to Combat Ops Entertainment Center. It offers indoor paintball games for all ages, including a zombie game at night.
The center has two fields: one with an indoor maze and one with an outdoor field with obstacles such as bunkers and trees to hide behind while shooting your opponents! After playing paintball you can cool off in their swimming pool or try out their bungee trampoline!
